Prayerful Thoughts

In the last couple of years I have been thinking more about Jesus Christ as a man.  He has both a divine and human nature in one man, one body.  How can this be? We can’t fully comprehend it.  There are a lot of things I don’t comprehend.  I only know what God has revealed to us in the scriptures.

What kind of a man was Jesus?  We read that Jesus felt compassionate for the sick, needy, and the unwanted in society.  We read that Jesus didn’t have any trouble at all saying what he was really thinking.  He didn’t have any trouble confronting those who were proud and confident of their own goodness.  He hated phony behavior and hypocrisy.  He liked eating and drinking with those who were honest about their sin and being “messed up”.   He enjoyed children.  Jesus told the truth even when threatened with crucifixion.

I have a long way to go to be the kind of man that Jesus is.

Jesus was a praying man.  In many churches, the women take the lead in the prayer ministry.  Church prayer chains are primarily women. All over the country, there will be more women than men showing up for the Wednesday prayer meeting.  For Jesus, prayer is a MAN thing to do. It’s not just for women.

Prayer is hard for me.  It seems like such a waste of time!  Get out there and do something! For Jesus prayer comes first, then the work.  For Him prayer was enjoying talking with His Father.  Relating with His father gave him the energy he needed to work.

Jesus said, “My house shall be called a house of prayer” (Matthew 21:13).

Oh, that I might be more like Jesus!  Oh that we might be a house of prayer!
