A Song Worth Singing

Luke 1:46-55

Pastor’s Paragraph...

The hymn writer doesn’t say, “When upon life’s billows, you are tempest tossed, when you are discouraged thinking all is lost, Sit and sulk and moan and groan and feel sorry for yourself and quit coming to church.” He says, “Count your many blessings - name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done.”

David, the psalmist, says the same thing in Psalm 103. Bless the Lord, O my soul and forget not ALL His benefits. He forgives your sins, restores your soul, rescues you and places you in a place of victory, crowns you with glory and satisfies your life with good things.

A father and his young daughter were walking together one clear wintry night. The little girl said, “Daddy, I’m going to count the stars.” The father heard her count to two hundred and twenty five. Then he heard her sigh, “I had no idea there were so many. I don’t believe I can count them all.” The wise father said, “The stars are just like God’s benefits. God showers us with His blessings and benefits day by day. There are so many of them that we can never count them all.”

The hymn writer ends his song of praise and testimony with these lines, “So amid the conflict, whether great or small, do not be discouraged; GOD IS OVER ALL. Count your many blessings; angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.”

This Thanksgiving let each of us recount again what God has done in our lives and rededicate ourselves to more faithful service to the One Who “has called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

Yours in His service THANKFULLY,

Pastor Kirk
